GPZ500 project pt3

So...new battery in.....press of the starter
..a grumble and nothing....

Great.

Oh one sec...I've not turned the fuel tap on!

Turn onto reserse and boom starts first time. However....somewhat loud
Very loud...the exhaust is blowing.

Checked along the exhaust to feel for exhaust escape and its escaping in no less than 5 areas...all on welds, poorly made welds it looks like. I've temporarily filled them all with gun gum with potential to come back it it later and have it rewelded.

Now i know its running I'm going to start stripping it down and cleaning it.

Main concern is the rear shock, and how I'm actually going to get it off as I have no garage roof to hoist the rear up with....

Can't use a paddock stand... Looked at a bike jack...however a quarter of the underside is exhaust pipe which won't take the weight.

GPZ500 Project Bike - pt2 so it begins...

Part 2 Does it work off the bat?

I have now had a look over the bike quickly and theres a few worrying patches of rust but i'm hoping on further inspection will just be surface rust, noticed a few bodge fixes here and there which I will repair more neatly if I can get it to run. All cosmetic work is sidelined until it's running.

Unfortunately the battery is dry as grilled badger someone left grilling overnight as they were too drunk to remove it from the grill.

Bodge #1 dremeled down terminals, nuts slotted in behind for bolts to go in, also one of the terminal connectors on the wiring came off while removing the battery....

However...........topped up battery with tap water (chucking the battery anyway) and managed to get enough charge into it to test the electrics on the bike work, HUZZAH! at least something is working from the go. all lights working, indicators fine. boosh. Not tried the starter yet as currently no oil in the bike.

As a side note, it looks like prev owners didn't like the colour pink XD

GPZ500 Project Bike - pt1 so it begins...

So it begins.....

So, i was out for a walk and had been browsing ebay and stuck a few bikes on a watch list with never really a true intention of buying one yet, however one was a GPZ500 on buy it now for £600 but also on aution. It had no bids, so I place minimum bid and won without expecting to.

Fast forward a week later, hired a van and picked it up.

Now at this point i've not really given it proper look over.
MOT expired 2 months ago an apparently been sitting upto a year.

The plan is to get it back running and on the road if possible, stage 2 of the plan is to tart it up (repaint, rust removal etc)

Stevie J's 1 sentence movie review: Bunraku

Batshit crazy, very stylized, with some poor acting and annoying 'everying looks indoors' look; but somehow strangely enjoyable film.

First Post

So er, hey, decided to do a bit of a blog, not for any other reason than for channelling a bit of my insanity.

So, i'm currently sat in bed on my 7 yr old crumbling laptop waiting for a delivery, it's 9:30am and i've not much else to do apart from some craft/diy

What I intend this blog for will be random musings of a potentially brutal dictator (if someone gave me the power) and reviews of random things from time to time, I imagine I won't stick to just 1 thing so the reviews will be of Albums, Movies, Games and any other random crap I lay my hands on!

as my knees are melting off due to the ancient laptop gaining the power of generating more heat than 1000 eternal suns I'll log off for now.

Review coming next of Box FZ-1 motorcycle helmet (when it's delivered) mainly as there appears to be no other reviews for it online.

Stay Classy
